    RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Over-Current) is an important electrical protection device that combines the functions of a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) and a residual current device (RCD). This integration enables the RCBO to provide comprehensive protection against two types of electrical faults: residual current (leakage) and overcurrent.
    Residual current, or leakage, occurs when a circuit is accidentally interrupted due to factors such as poor electrical wiring or a DIY accident. For example, drilling through a cable when installing a picture hook or accidentally cutting it with a lawnmower can cause leakage. In this case, the electrical current will seek the path of least resistance, possibly through a lawn mower or drill, and reach the body, creating a risk of electrocution.
    On the other hand, overcurrent comes in two forms: overload and short circuit. Overloading occurs when a circuit is burdened with too many power-hungry devices that exceeds the capacity of the cable. A short circuit, on the other hand, is caused by a direct connection between a live conductor and a neutral conductor, causing a rapid surge of current that can be very dangerous.
    While conventional RCDs only protect against leakage, MCBs protect against overcurrent, and RCBOs provide complete protection against both types of faults. By detecting and responding to residual current and overcurrent conditions, RCBOs play a key role in ensuring electrical safety in a variety of applications, including residential, commercial and industrial environments.
