    Introduction

    JCB2-40M is a low voltage miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with advanced protection features. This 1P+N circuit breaker is 1 module wide (18 mm) and is designed to protect individuals and equipment from electrical hazards. It provides reliable overload current and short circuit protection as well as switching functionality.  The JCB2-40M circuit breaker's quick closing mechanism and high performance limits help extend its service life.
    The JCB2-40M MCB is equipped with thermal and electromagnetic releases that respond to overloads and provide short circuit protection.  The short-circuit breaking capacity under 230V/240V AC is up to 6kA, complying with IEC60897-1 and EN 60898-1 standards. In addition, it complies with the industrial standard EN/IEC 60898-1 and the residential standard EN/IEC 60947-2.  JCB2-40M circuit breaker has a rated electrical life of up to 20,000 times and a mechanical life of up to 20,000 times.
    The circuit breaker is compatible with pin power bus/DPN pin bus and is designed for 35mm DIN rail mounting. Its terminal protection level is IP20 according to IEC/EN 60529 standard. Operating temperature range is -25°C to 70°C, storage temperature range is -40°C to 70°C. The operating frequency is 50Hz or 60Hz, the rated insulation voltage of Ui is 500VAC, and the rated impulse withstand voltage of Uimp is 4kV.
    The JCB2-40M circuit breaker is a versatile solution with B, C and D trip characteristics, providing flexibility to meet various application requirements. Equipped with red and green contact position indicators, which can effectively communicate the device status, increasing convenience and safety.

Its upstream and downstream bi-stable DIN rail latches facilitate easy mounting to DIN rail, providing a safe and secure installation. Additionally, an integrated locking device on the toggle allows the circuit breaker to be locked in the off position, enhancing safety and providing a safe working environment for all personnel. This feature allows the insertion of 2.5-3.5 mm cable ties and the attachment of warning cards if necessary.

     When selecting the right type of circuit breaker for a specific application, several key criteria must be considered to ensure optimal performance and safety. The following three criteria must be considered:
     1) Current limiting level (=selectivity level)
     MCBs are classified into current-limiting (selective) Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 based on off-time under short circuit conditions. These categories determine the circuit breaker's ability to limit the magnitude of short-circuit current and provide selectivity in the distribution system.  Category 1 offers the highest selectivity, while Category 3 offers the lowest selectivity. Understanding selectivity levels is critical to ensuring proper coordination and protection within electrical installations.
    2) Rated current
     The rated current of a circuit breaker indicates the current value that the MCB can permanently withstand at an ambient temperature of 30°C, especially in residential and commercial applications. It is important to select a circuit breaker with an ampere rating that matches the specific electrical load requirements of the application to ensure reliable and safe operation.
    3) Trip characteristics
     Circuit breakers with Type B and Type C trip characteristics are the most common types as they are the standard for residential and commercial applications. The tripping characteristics determine the circuit breaker's response to overcurrent. Characteristic B is suitable for circuits with mainly resistive loads, while characteristic C is suitable for circuits with mixed resistive loads and inductive loads. Understanding the tripping characteristics is critical to ensuring that a circuit breaker provides effective overload and short-circuit protection in a specific application.
